• Joint technology development: Topell Energy will partner with biomass suppliers, utilities, engineering firms and research institutes to develop specific torrefaction solutions for new feedstock, product applications and industry sectors.
• Torrefaction testing services: Topell Energy has its own laboratory scale pilot plant, as well as an industry scale demonstration plant.  Topell offers partners the opportunity to carry out tests with various biomasses (among which forestry findings, energy crops, agricultural waste, demolition wood) in both these plants.
• Sales of samples of torrefied material: Topell Energy regularly has product available for sale to test the torrefied material at both laboratory scale and for large scale tests in different applications.
• Sale of torrefaction plants: Topell Energy will sell and license its technology for torrefaction plants around the world.  The company looks for partners that have access to biomass, a production site with the appropriate logistics infrastructure, as well as the necessary financing to successful build and operate new torrefaction plants.

• Relevante HBO/WO opleiding (bijvoorbeeld richting industriële automatisering, proces technologie, meet- en regeltechniek, elektrotechniek )
• 5 – 10 jaar ervaring in process control (bij ingenieursburo of in procesindustrie)
• Aantoonbare ervaring met multidisciplinaire engineering projecten
• Kennis over de werking en programmering van PLC, DCS en SCADA systemen
• Ervaring met ontwikkeling van nieuwe processen en de opstart van nieuwe fabrieken is een pre
• Vloeiend in Engels

To achieve a breakthrough in the development of large-scale torrefaction, the management of Topell Energy decided in 2008 to set up a commercial-scale torrefaction plant. Currently, Topell Energy is operating this commercial torrefaction plant in Duiven (The Netherlands), which will ultimately have a production capacity of 60,000 tons per annum. This plant is owned by Topell Nederland. Topell Nederland is owned by Topell Energy B.V. and , RWE Innogy GmbH, (the renewable arm and 100% subsidiary of the German utility group RWE AG), and the Dutch waste and energy company HVC.

Jules Kortenhorst – CEO
Before joining Topell Energy, Jules Kortenhorst was the founding CEO of the European Climate Foundation, the largest philanthropic organization in Europe focused on influencing government policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Before launching the ECF, he served as a member of the Dutch parliament for the Christian Democratic Party, CDA.

Earlier, Kortenhorst was the CEO for International Operations of ClientLogic Corporation, a global leader in outsourced Customer Relationship Management solutions. Earlier in his career, Kortenhorst worked for eight years for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group in several roles and countries, and in his last position was the Managing Director of Shell Bulgaria. Kortenhorst graduated as a Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School and holds a master’s degree in economics from Erasmus University in The Netherlands. He began his career as an analyst at McKinsey & Co. in Amsterdam.  Kortenhorst is married and has four children.

Maarten Herrebrugh – COO
Maarten Herrebrugh holds an MSc Degree in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology and a MBA degree from MIT Sloan School of Management. During his career, Maarten worked, among others, for Akzo Nobel, The Boston Consulting Group, and various technology start-ups. Maarten joined Topell Energy in 2009.

The management team is supported by an experienced and knowledgeable Supervisory Board, whose members are well connected in the energy and clean tech world and have extensive experience in growing international businesses.
